Before any brochure: the licensing reality

why this page leads with a pass rate, not a university list

An MBBS abroad only becomes a licence to practise in India after passing FMGE — and in NBE's own 2019–2020 institute-wise data, 20.6% passed. Roughly four of five candidates did not, many after 6 years and ₹30–60 lakh. Which university you pick moves this number more than anything an agent will tell you.

These are the newest institute-wise figures NBE has published. Session-level results since (10–29% a session) confirm the picture has not materially changed. Rates marked † rest on fewer than 30 candidates and should not be read as a rate at all.

Before committing abroad, price the alternative: a private BDS or BAMS seat in India needs no licensing exam afterwards. Your My options section shows both against your own rank.

No such thing as an “NMC-approved university”

FMGL Regulations 2021 — what actually decides whether a foreign degree works in India

NMC maintains no approved-university list — deliberately. The old approved-list system was replaced by criteria that your course must meet; which university granted it carries no weight on its own. An agent saying a university is “NMC-approved” is describing something that does not exist.

Course duration of at least 54 months
Several destinations sell 4-year or 'accelerated' programmes; graduates of those cannot be licensed in India at all.
12-month internship at the SAME institution that taught the course
Universities that outsource clinical rotations or internships to other institutions/countries break this rule — common in the Caribbean and some CIS programmes.
Entire course, training and internship in ENGLISH
Bilingual-track programmes (common in Russia, China, some CIS states) where part of the teaching or ward work runs in the local language fail the requirement.
Registration/licence to practise in the country that granted the degree, equivalent to what its own citizens receive
Some programmes enrol foreigners on tracks that never lead to a local licence — the degree then cannot be used in India either.
Whole course at a single foreign institution
Twinning / split-campus programmes (part in one country, part in another) are not acceptable.
After returning: qualify the screening/licensing examination (FMGE, being replaced by NExT) and complete supervised internship in India as prescribed
This is where the pass-rate data on this page applies — in the newest institute-wise figures NBE has published, 79% of candidates failed.

"This university is NMC-approved / NMC-recognised" → No such approval exists. NMC approves criteria compliance of YOUR course, not universities.

"100% FMGE pass rate" → Check the sample size in the table on this page — most '100%' universities sent a handful of candidates.

"WHO-listed university" → WDOMS listing means the school exists, nothing more. It carries no weight under FMGL 2021.
