Domicile & documents

Maharashtra does not have a single domicile test — it has a ladder of candidature types, each with different eligibility and different access to reserved seats.

• • Type A — domiciled in Maharashtra AND passed both Class 10 and Class 12 from a Maharashtra institution. The strongest position; full access to state reservation.
• • Type B — born in Maharashtra, but schooling completed outside the state (with conditions).
• • Type C — parent is a Government of India / Government of Maharashtra employee posted in Maharashtra.
• • Type D — parent is a Maharashtra domicile holder, candidate schooled elsewhere.
• • Type E — candidates from the Maharashtra-Karnataka disputed border area, a special category.

Documents: Domicile certificate · Caste certificate AND caste VALIDITY certificate (both — the validity certificate takes months to obtain and is the most common cause of a lost reserved seat in this state) · Non-creamy-layer certificate for OBC

• ⚠ The caste VALIDITY certificate is separate from the caste certificate and must be applied for far in advance. Start before results day, not after.
• ⚠ Only Type A candidates get unrestricted access to state reserved categories; other types may be restricted to open seats.
